These pages contain a selection of images by artists who attend or have attended the Life Drawing class at Bristol Grammar School. A wide variety of people attend of all ages, some of whom also paint, draw and exhibit in their own time so this is a chance to find out more about what they do.
The class is an open series of sessions for those with some experience and or those who are confident enough to come along and paint or draw. If you just want to be left to draw, paint or experiment with materials then you are free to do so without being bothered. It can be a very sociable life class however and there is tuition available if you feel you need it, although in a fairly informal way. I run a seperate beginners drawing and painting class on different evenings and days in other venues in Bristol and Bath so if you are a total or nervous beginner that’s an option that you may wish to consider. The price for that class is £47 and includes a range of materials such as Watercolour, Acrylic and pastel. It’s designed to provide a friendly introduction to art whether you happen to be someone who is retired and looking for a new hobby and a chance to make friends, someone who didn’t have a particularly inspiring experience of art at school or really anyone who just feels like coming along and having a go but feel that they need a fair bit of “hand holding” as well. There isn’t any life drawing (i.e. nudes) component to the beginners class, it’s mainly working from photographs or still life. I’m in the process of putting together a website for the beginners classes at the moment but anyone who is interested should get in touch and I can provide you with more information and testimonials.
Most of the group members are local to Bristol but we do have people who travel from as far as Clevedon, Bath and Weston-Super-Mare to be here ( It is located in central Bristol and has two large carparks so unusually for a site in this area the parking situation is very good.) The class is very good value for money : £47 for ten sessions with no extra charges and you get a choice 3 or 4 models with short (5-10mins) medium (15-20mins) and long (45mins to an hour). The choice has always been very popular. I can remember going to life drawing classes in the past with a single model where, if the model didn’t turn up the class would be cancelled so obviously with a choice of models this is less likely to happen. It’s also nice because if your penchant is for drawing quick 5 minute poses you can do that for the whole evening if that is what you wish. You can also move around and draw other models if the view from where you are sitting isn’t inspiring enough. All the models are very experienced and have been modelling in the Bristol area for many different life drawing classes. If you’ve done a bit of drawing before and been to a class you may recognise one or two of them!

This site is currently a “work in progress” but if you continue to visit over the coming weeks you will find other life drawing related links and information on these pages as well as information about some of the artists who attend. I hope you find them interesting and helpful.
